Can you get life insurance (assurance) in the Military/ Army/ Defence Forces?

Updated: Apr 5, 2023

The Defence Forces are the armed forces of Ireland comprising of the Army, Air Corps, Naval Service and Reserve Defence Forces.

Getting life insurance for armed forces personnel is generally available and often at standard rate premiums.

There is a wide list of different types of roles in the army/ defence forces which can be classified as either low risk or high risk and are largely dependent on whether you are involved in any conflict or deployed in active duty overseas.

What information will underwriters look at for a Member of the Army?

As a member of the Army/ Defence Forces, the Insurance underwriters will need to know what your regular work routine is to fully assess the risks of your role.

Usually the main concern with underwriters is when the individual concerned is in active deployment or is due to see frontline action in the foreseeable future.

Can you get serious illness cover in the Army?

Applications for Critical Illness Cover (or serious illness) are usually assessed in a similar way to life insurance and again will depend on the level of risk associated with your occupational role.

If your role involves exposure to high risk situations, it is almost mandatory that critical illness exclusions will be included in the policy.

Mortgage Protection Insurance is also available and can be discussed in relation to all of the above.

Our qualified team of advisors at Citywide Financial Solutions are always available to guide you through the best options specific to your requirements.
